Over view

The 10 day safari takes you through the East to the source of the Nile river and to Kapchorwa’s Sipi falls. Then to the Savanna and mountain ringed game reserve- Pian Upe where the savanna have a lot to offer including the Cheetahs, Roan antelopes, common Elands. After visit the Tepeth tribe in Moroto from where you will embark on the raw plains filled  with buffaloes, elephants, lions, leopards, Dik Diks, elands among others.

Day 1Arrival and Pick up

You arrive at Entebbe International Airport and a representative from Snap Uganda Tours will meet you. He will brief you about what to expect and about Uganda before transferring you to your lodge for an overnight.

Day 2Kampala to Mbale/ Kapchorwa with visit to the source of the Nile

In the morning after breakfast we leave Kampala and start on our journey to the north. It will take us first to Jinja, one of Uganda’s oldest towns. We shall visit the Nile River for a boat trip to its source. This boat trip takes you to where the river starts its 3 months journey before pouring into the Mediterranean sea. From here we have lunch and continue to Mbale town where we will have our overnight. The town is set against a beautiful back drop of Mt Elgon.

Day 3Sipi falls tour and community tour

Wake up in the Morning, have breakfast and drive an hour to a small village called Sipi. This is the where Sipi falls plunge at 100m into depth. Sipi comprise of three series of waterfalls all with the view of Mount Elgon. The environment is cool and breath taking with fresh air down from Mt Elgon.
On reaching Sipi town you will rewarded with magnificent views of the Karamoja plains. A local guide will meet you and brief you about the hike to the last of the three Sipi waterfalls. Sipi Falls is a hiker’s paradise waiting to be explored.
Then you will start your walk down to the falls through local communities. On your journey, you will pass through lush farms, coffee plantations and homes.
After the Hike, you will experience the coffee cycle where you will learn and participate in the activities of local coffee production right from the garden to your cup. The Arabica Coffee grown in Sipi on the slopes of Mt Elgon is one of the finest in the world. You will also meet the local farmers and learn about their role in the coffee production process. This will also give you an opportunity of learning the traditional art of roasting coffee beans to make your own cup of coffee.

Day 4Drive from Mbale to Pian Upe and do an evening game drive

In the Morning have early breakfast at the hotel, then drive to Pian Upe into the barely populated expanses of the Karamoja Land. Pian Upe Wildlife reserve is located in the northeastern semi-arid part of Uganda, spanning a land area of 2043 sqkm. It is undisputedly the largest wildlife reserve in the country and the second largest protected area in Uganda, after Murchison falls national park, also one of the most picturesque points in the country.
The Reserve is most notable for harboring quite a number of rare animals found nowhere else in Uganda, including a healthy population of Cheetahs and Uganda’s only remaining population of Roan Antelopes and special birds of the Somali- Masai biome. On reaching check in at your accommodation and relax as you prepare for the Evening drive

Day 5Game drive in Pain Upe and Hiking in the Afternoon

Wake up early have breakfast and embark on a game drive in the reserve. The reserve is home to large herds of ungulates including the Common Eland, a small population of Zebra, Hartebeests, Gunther’s Dik Dik, the popular Oribis, and the impalas which were recently relocated here from Lake Mburo National Park. Cape Buffalo, the Uganda Kob, Waterbuck, Blue and Common Duiker, Klipspringers and the Bohor and Mountain Reedbuck also enjoy the homely Pian Upe Game Reserve. All this with also an 80% chance of sighting cheetahs.
In the afternoon do a hike to Napedet cave.

Day 6Pian Upe to Moroto (Cultural visit to the Tepeth tribe)

Have early breakfast and drive for about 3 hours from Pian Upe to Moroto. As we drive through the table mountain of the semi-arid land you sight the herds of goat and cattle of the Karamajong herds men. We reach Moroto and take a 2-3 hour hike to the “Tepeth” accommodation with a local guide. The So / Tepeth are thought to be the original inhabitants of the Karamoja planes. They were hunters and gatherers by tradition, but were forced to abounded this way of life in exchange of agro-pastoralism due to the declining of wild life population in the 1970’s and 1980’s.

Day 7Moroto to Kidepo valley national park (Cultural visit to the Karamajong)

Have breakfast and leave Moroto for Kidepo Valley national Park. The park is Uganda’s most isolated park found in the north eastern Corner in the sparsely populated Karamoja Region. It is an area of rich cultural interest for plains around the park are dotted with manyattas Here we shall visit and encounter the Karamajong tribe in the afternoon and be guests in a “Manyatta” a traditional small village made of many mud houses of nomadic people. You will have a chance to learn about life of the local dwellers.

Day 8Morning game drive and afternoon drive

In the Morning after an early breakfast, we go on a morning game drive for the early risers. The park has got massive big game and we shall be on the drive almost all day. It will be time for a game drive via the Borassus palm lined Kidepo River, to the hot springs from where you can have a nature walk and enjoy your packed lunch. During the game drive to the hot springs look out for Ostriches and leopards and Leopard tortoises along the way. After lunch, you will have our guided nature walk through the park and return to the Lodge to rest.
In the evening, you will do another game drive in the wildlife rich Narus valley. Be on the lookout for lions, big buffalo herds and elephants. A lot of care will be taken to find a good spot for sunset pictures.

Day 9Morning game drive and transfer to Gulu

After breakfast, you will do another game drive in the Narus Valley and then return to the lodge for check out. We shall carry packed lunch and drive to Gulu for an overstay cut our journey for the next day. You will have a relaxed evening at the hotel in the Evening.

Day 10Transfer back to Entebbe and departure

In the morning after breakfast we transfer to Entebbe from Gulu about 370km. We shall have lunch en route and this day will mark the end of the 10 day safari.
